Separating A Room Into Sections
Separating a Room into Sections Design is imperative to the feeling that you get when you enter a room. Two common rooms to separate are the kitchen and dining area. There are multiple ways to separate rooms to provide an area that has a larger feeling to it. The following are a few ideas that are sure to separate spaces within your house:
- Changing up the walls
- Changing the lighting
- Artwork and mirrors
- Beams and arches
Changing up the walls can mean multiple different things. You can have your kitchen one color, then your dining room a completely different color, but that may cause too much contrast. Accent walls are the key to separating rooms. Whether you only have one wall that is bold in a room of neutrals, or you have a wall of stone or backsplash, an accent wall provides just what you need to separate spaces. Changing the lighting is another sure way to individualize a room. Kitchens usually offer recessed or pendant lighting. A dining room should be a little more elegant, with a chandelier, hanging light, or ceiling fan. Windows are often a form of light for both rooms as well. By changing the source of lighting within the connected rooms, you are showing that the rooms are meant for different purposes and therefore you are separating the room. Artwork is displayed in nearly every area of a home or office to show personality and pizzazz. Changing the style of your artwork from one room to another can undoubtedly separate a room. Mirrors are a common choice of artwork because they provide extra light to a room, but they aren't often found in a kitchen. Kitchens consist of phrases and well-known motivational quotes. The dining area could consist of photos of food, places, or events. Personally, Everything I pick out to decorate my entire house is within the same theme, so I am not good at Beams and arches are the new Je ne sais quoi. They have something unique and desirable that isn't easily described. Beams go straight across a room and would only be in the kitchen, therefore separating it from the dining room, or the other way around. They are often some type of rustic wood, but they could also be stone, or even made of whatever the house is composed of, such as sheet rock. Arches are usually composed of the same material as the house, but they are a sure way to separate a room. Walking from a dining area, under an archway, into a kitchen gives you the feeling of walking into a completely different room. Another newer way to separate an area are sliding barn doors. They can easily close off an area from view or open it up.
